A Commanding Mandate
Representative Ritchie Torres has successfully defended his seat in the Democratic primary for New York’s 15th Congressional District. According to unofficial results reported by the NYC Board of Elections on June 24, 2026, Torres secured 71.95% of the vote, effectively distancing himself from challenger Michael Blake, who garnered 21.81%.
The victory solidifies Torres’s position as the Democratic nominee for the general election. His district, which encompasses diverse Bronx neighborhoods including Fordham, Mott Haven, and Riverdale, remains a stronghold for the incumbent as he prepares for the upcoming electoral cycle.
Voter Turnout and Context
The primary took place amid moderate voter engagement across the Bronx. Election officials reported that 44,965 voters cast ballots on Election Day, with an additional 14,739 participating during the early voting period. Furthermore, 4,199 mail-in ballots were processed.
While turnout remained relatively modest, the results reflect a clear preference among Democratic voters in the district to maintain current representation. The NYC Board of Elections noted that these results remain unofficial until formal certification is completed.
The 15th District serves as a critical political hub in the Bronx, and Torres’s performance underscores his continued alignment with the district’s electorate. As the general election approaches, the focus for the Torres campaign will shift toward maintaining this momentum in a broader political landscape.
