Tour Disruption in Texas

Canadian rock icons Rush have announced the postponement of two upcoming performances at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The shows, originally scheduled for June 30 and July 2, were called off after bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee was diagnosed with laryngitis and bronchitis.

In a statement released on social media, the band confirmed that Lee was evaluated by medical professionals and advised to undergo a period of rest to ensure a full recovery. Guitarist Alex Lifeson noted in a video message that Lee struggled to speak during the soundcheck, making a high-quality vocal performance impossible.

Commitment to Performance Standards

The band emphasized that the decision was driven by their long-standing commitment to production quality. “After more than 50 years of touring, we’ve always believed that if we’re going to step on stage, we owe you the very best performance we can give,” the band stated. The concerts have been rescheduled for July 11 and July 13, respectively, with all original tickets remaining valid.

Context of the ‘Fifty Something’ Tour

This development marks the second scheduling challenge for the band’s current “Fifty Something” tour. Earlier in June, a performance was delayed due to logistics and border-related issues affecting the touring production. The tour, which features a revamped lineup including drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold, celebrates the legacy of late drummer Neil Peart.

The current leg of the tour, spanning 58 shows across 24 cities, has seen significant demand, with over half a million tickets sold. While these health-related setbacks are notable, the band’s commitment to maintaining their signature standard of musicianship remains the primary driver behind the adjustments. Industry observers are now watching to see how the band manages the remaining dates of the North American leg before their planned expansion into South America and Europe in 2027.
