The Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the United States recently hosted a vibrant cultural evening dedicated to the renowned filmmaker and artist, Sergey Parajanov. 1 This event, held in collaboration with “Things to do DC,” served as a powerful testament to Parajanov’s enduring legacy and his profound impact on the world of art. 1 The evening was particularly significant as it aligned with UNESCO’s recognition of Parajanov’s contributions, marking his inclusion in the organization’s prestigious calendar of anniversaries for 2024-2025.
Ambassador Lilit Makunts eloquently opened the event, highlighting the richness of Armenian cultural heritage and the remarkable contributions of its artists, with a special emphasis on the extraordinary life and work of Sergey Parajanov. She underscored the importance of celebrating such figures who transcend national boundaries and enrich the global cultural landscape.
