Tesla’s Cybercab has captured attention with its unconventional design, from its wheels to its dihedral door mechanism. Recently, Tesla’s chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen, revealed the reasoning behind one of its most debated features: its color.
Unveiled during Tesla’s “We, Robot” event, the Cybercab has quickly become Tesla’s most talked-about product since the Cybertruck’s launch in 2019. The yellowish-golden hue of the Cybercab, according to Franz, was chosen as a tribute to New York City’s iconic yellow taxis. Tesla envisions a futuristic fleet of autonomous Cybercabs, with the color serving as a nod to the NYC taxis while presenting a modern twist.
Despite the Cybercab’s futuristic appeal, significant challenges remain before fully autonomous vehicles can become mainstream. Tesla’s full self-driving technology remains a contentious topic, and achieving mass production of a fully autonomous Cybercab by 2026 seems ambitious, considering Tesla’s history of delayed timelines.
While the vision of a sleek, driverless fleet is enticing, skepticism lingers regarding Tesla’s ability to meet its ambitious goals within the planned timeframe. Nonetheless, the Cybercab represents another bold step in Tesla’s pursuit of automotive innovation.
