The Yerevan Municipality has made significant strides in urban greenery by expanding its nursery area from 2 to 20 hectares under the “Green Areas and Environmental Protection” initiative. This expansion project includes a substantial improvement in land quality, with extensive cleaning of stones, weeds, and unusable remnants from the old nursery. By taking these steps, Yerevan has positioned itself as a more sustainable city, addressing the urban ecological needs of its residents.
Currently, approximately 15,000 trees are being planted in this new facility, including essential species such as pines, oaks, and albizias, which are well-suited to Yerevan’s climate and will contribute meaningfully to the city’s green cover. These plantings aim to mitigate issues related to urban heat, improve air quality, and enhance biodiversity, offering long-term environmental benefits.
