YouTube Monetization: A Missed Opportunity for Armenian Creators

Quick Read
– YouTube paid over $100 billion to creators globally.
– Armenian creators can’t monetize due to program exclusion.
– Government promises monetization by 2024 remain unfulfilled.
– COVID-19 spurred growth in Armenian content creation.
– No final decision on monetization as of 2025.

YouTube has transformed the landscape of content creation, offering countless individuals the chance to turn their passions into professions. Over the last four years, the platform has disbursed more than $100 billion to creators and media companies worldwide. Yet, despite the booming growth of YouTube channels in Armenia, local creators find themselves on the outside looking in, unable to access the monetization opportunities that have become a lifeline for many around the globe.

The crux of the issue lies in Armenia’s exclusion from YouTube’s Partner Program, a prerequisite for monetization. Tigran Jorgantsi, a YouTube producer, points out that before 2018, Armenian creators could earn money from their views. However, Google tightened its policies, limiting monetization in countries without a local representation. This shift has left many talented individuals in Armenia wondering when they will be able to benefit from the platform’s financial ecosystem.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to a surge in diverse content on Armenian YouTube channels, as creators adapted to the changing landscape. Despite this increase in creativity and engagement, the promise of monetization remains unfulfilled. The Armenian government had assured that by 2024, local creators would gain access to monetization options. However, as we step into 2025, this issue remains unresolved, leaving creators in a state of uncertainty.

The Ministry of High-Tech Industry has stated that it is actively working to address the monetization challenge, yet no definitive solution has emerged. This prolonged delay raises questions about the government’s commitment to supporting the local creative economy and fostering an environment where Armenian content can thrive.

As the global content creation industry continues to evolve, the exclusion of Armenia from YouTube’s monetization program represents a significant missed opportunity. The potential for growth is immense, but without the necessary support and infrastructure, many talented creators may be forced to abandon their dreams or seek opportunities elsewhere.

In an age where digital content is king, the Armenian government must act decisively to ensure that local creators are not left behind. The future of Armenian content creation depends on it.
