Allegiant Air Increases Florida Connectivity
Allegiant Air has announced a significant expansion of its seasonal flight schedule for the second half of 2026, centering on Punta Gorda Airport (PGD). The airline is introducing one new route and reinstating six seasonal connections, aiming to bolster travel options in the Florida market.
The expansion includes service to key regional hubs, with flights to Atlantic City, Bangor, Chattanooga, Rochester, St. Cloud, and Syracuse scheduled to begin between October and November. Notably, the new route to La Crosse, Wisconsin, represents a strategic addition to the carrier’s network. This move aligns with broader industry trends, as major carriers like American, Delta, and Southwest also increase their service frequency across Florida’s primary airports.
USGS Initiates Geological Mapping in Nevada
Simultaneously, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has launched a series of low-level helicopter flights over northeastern Nevada. This project, conducted in collaboration with the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, utilizes airborne geophysical technology to map subsurface geological structures.
The survey, which will continue through October, focuses on Elko, Eureka, and Lander counties. Scientists aim to identify mineral, energy, and groundwater resources, which are considered vital for national security and the U.S. economy. According to the USGS, the data collected via magnetic and radiometric sensors will be made publicly available, supporting both scientific research and resource exploration efforts in the region.
