Welsh singer Duffy has made a rare public appearance, marking the end of a 15-year hiatus that saw one of pop music’s biggest stars vanish from the spotlight. According to reports from The Telegraph, the singer’s long absence followed a turbulent period involving legal disputes with management and significant personal trauma.
Duffy, whose meteoric rise in the late 2000s was defined by hits like “Mercy,” withdrew from the industry following the release of her second album, Endlessly. Veteran songwriter Albert Hammond, a close collaborator, noted that the singer felt disillusioned by an industry that he claims “made money from her, used her and then decided to drop her.” Following her departure, Duffy faced legal challenges, including a lawsuit from former manager Angela Becker, which was eventually settled out of court.
In interviews prior to her disappearance, Duffy had spoken with a somber tone about the potential for tragedy in the lives of iconic artists. While she has remained largely reclusive for over a decade, recent sightings suggest a shift in her public engagement. Supporters and former collaborators, including Hammond, have emphasized that her focus during these years was on personal recovery rather than professional output.
