Data Collection Begins for Destroyed or Appropriated Homes in Artsakh
Artak Beglaryan, the former State Minister of Artsakh, announced a new initiative aimed at documenting the destruction and illegal appropriation of homes in the territories of Artsakh currently under Azerbaijani control. The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, Gegham Stepanyan.
The primary goal is to collect verified information that can be submitted in international legal proceedings. According to Beglaryan, individuals who have reliable information about their homes being destroyed or appropriated by others can now submit these details via a dedicated questionnaire. The data will only be used with the written consent of the individuals involved.
This effort comes in response to widespread concerns over property rights violations in Artsakh following the recent escalation in the region. Beglaryan emphasized that the information will be collected strictly for legal use and that individuals will be contacted for further documentation and preparation of legal steps based on the submissions.
The current phase focuses solely on housing and property-related violations. Other types of human rights abuses will be addressed in subsequent stages depending on the team’s limited capacity and the prioritization of issues.
Beglaryan also clarified that there is no need to resubmit information for individuals who have already participated in earlier rounds of data collection.
