Quick Read

  • World of Warcraft Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026.
  • The project introduces a level 60 cap and aims to remain in the game’s early era.
  • New content includes three zones, nine dungeons, two raids, and a new race, the Skyborne Elves.
  • A beta for the MMO is scheduled to begin on September 17.

A New Chapter for Classic Azeroth

Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced World of Warcraft Forever, a new project designed to fulfill long-standing player demand for a “Classic Plus” experience. Revealed at the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony, the game aims to capture the spirit of the original 2004 release while introducing significant new content within a “time bubble” that maintains a level 60 cap, according to Polygon.

Executive producer Holly Longdale described the project as a version of the game that is “friendly, familiar, and new,” emphasizing that the development philosophy prioritizes the journey over the destination. Unlike previous iterations of World of Warcraft Classic, which progressed through historical expansion content like The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, Forever is intended to remain in the early era of the game’s history indefinitely.

Expanding the World

The project represents Blizzard’s most ambitious attempt to iterate on the vanilla World of Warcraft formula. As reported by Windows Central, the update includes a substantial expansion of the game’s environment. Key features announced include:

  • Three entirely new zones and significant overhauls to existing ones.
  • The introduction of the Skyborne Elves, a new race tied to the game’s new zones.
  • Over 1,000 new quests and nine new dungeons.
  • Two new max-level raids designed for 10 and 20 players.
  • A new PvP Battleground, Darkspear Islands.

These additions are intended to provide fresh experiences for players at all stages of the leveling process, rather than focusing solely on end-game content.

Availability and Next Steps

World of Warcraft Forever is scheduled for a worldwide launch on November 4, 2026. Players eager to test the new content will have an early opportunity, as a beta phase is set to begin on September 17. The game is currently available for hands-on demonstrations on the BlizzCon 2026 show floor.

While the company continues to support its retail version of the game—with a new update titled Eclipse planned for the Midnight expansion—Forever represents a dedicated effort to sustain a segment of the community that prefers the original gameplay design of the early 2000s.
