A New Chapter in the Championship
Bristol City has officially confirmed the signing of 22-year-old Dutch midfielder Gibson Yah from Eredivisie side Volendam. The transfer, completed for an undisclosed fee, sees the former youth international commit to a four-year contract at Ashton Gate, keeping him with the club until the summer of 2030.
Yah’s arrival marks a productive week for the Robins, serving as their third signing in 48 hours following the acquisitions of goalkeeper Sam Tickle and midfielder Sam Greenwood. The move is viewed as a strategic step to add both technical depth and physical presence to the squad ahead of the new season.
Transition from the Eredivisie
A product of the renowned Ajax youth academy, which he joined at age 11, Yah has spent his formative professional years in the Netherlands. After making his debut for Jong Ajax at 17, he moved to Utrecht in 2022 before a transition to Volendam, where he clocked 26 top-flight appearances last season. Despite Volendam’s relegation, Yah’s individual performances caught the eye of the Bristol City recruitment team.
Sporting Director James Ellis noted the importance of supporting the young player’s adjustment to the English game. “Gibson is a player that helps us provide depth and will fit into the group,” Ellis stated. “We will support his growth and development with us upon his arrival as he gets used to life in England and the demands of the game here.”
Aiming for Impact
Reflecting on his move, Yah emphasized the influence of manager Michael Skubala and the club’s long-term vision. “James Ellis and Michael Skubala showed me their vision. They told me the plans they have for me and especially the trust they were speaking about,” Yah said. “I’m here to show them what I can do. I don’t like to speak words, so I prefer to show it on the pitch.”
Manager Michael Skubala expressed confidence in the new recruit, highlighting the technical and physical attributes that align with the club’s tactical requirements. As the squad returns for pre-season testing, Yah is expected to integrate quickly into the group, with the club hoping these early transfer successes will build momentum for the upcoming campaign.
