The Colorado Avalanche announced on Monday that forward Taylor Makar has signed a two-year contract extension. The deal, which carries an annual salary cap hit of $875,000, keeps the 25-year-old within the organization through the 2027-28 season.
According to reports from The Denver Post, the structure of the agreement includes a two-way contract for the 2026-27 season, transitioning to a one-way deal for the 2027-28 campaign. Makar, a 2020 seventh-round draft pick, entered the offseason as a pending restricted free agent.
Makar made his NHL debut last season, appearing in 12 games for the Avalanche. His development trajectory has been highlighted by a productive stint with the Colorado Eagles in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he recorded 14 goals and 24 points during the regular season, followed by a strong performance in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
The signing provides the Avalanche with roster stability as the team manages internal development needs. The organization is also expected to focus on contract discussions for Taylor’s brother, star defenseman Cale Makar, who has one year remaining on his current deal and becomes eligible for an extension starting July 1.
