The European Union Monitoring Mission in Armenia (EUMA) marked the new year with a reaffirmed commitment to fostering peace and security in the region. Highlighting their steadfast mission, EUMA stated, “Despite weather conditions and impassable roads, we are proud to support stability and normalization efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
With an average of 3-4 patrols daily, EUMA has covered approximately 3800 km weekly, conducting over 1500 patrols within a year. These efforts are not limited by time or conditions. In August and September, for instance, amidst Azerbaijani allegations of Armenian troop reinforcements near Goris, EUMA conducted night patrols to confirm and report the calm situation. “We show the flag and calm the tensions,” Ritter explained.
The Mission’s activities are pivotal in addressing allegations, ensuring transparency, and maintaining communication with local and international actors, including Russian border guards. As tensions persist in the region, the EU Mission continues to play a crucial role in preventing escalation and building trust.
