The family of 44-year-old Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, a North Carolina resident who went missing on the Caribbean island of Grenada, has released new surveillance footage in an effort to aid the ongoing search. Waddell, a physical therapist from Cary, disappeared on July 22, 2026, after entering the water near Grand Anse Beach.
The Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) confirmed that the investigation remains active. Acting Commissioner Randy Connaught stated that while the footage does not show Waddell returning from the water, investigators are currently reconstructing her final movements. The search effort has involved the Grenada Coast Guard, local dive professionals, and the RGPF drone unit, which has surveyed a 10-mile stretch of the coastline.
Timeline of Disappearance
According to official reports, Waddell arrived in Grenada on July 11 and stayed at a resort on the western side of the island for 10 days before relocating to a residence in the south. On July 22, surveillance footage recorded her walking toward a jetty at 11:36 a.m. and entering the water at 11:51 a.m. By 12:04 p.m., she was seen swimming beneath the structure. Her friend, who was accompanying her on the trip, reported her missing at approximately 5:50 p.m. that same day.
Authorities have confirmed they have recovered Waddell’s personal belongings, including her cellphone. Police are currently analyzing these items alongside eyewitness accounts to determine the circumstances of her disappearance. Commissioner Connaught noted that the friend who reported her missing has been fully cooperative with the investigation.
Family Stance and Investigation Status
Despite the lack of a definitive conclusion, Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, who arrived in Grenada on July 24 to assist in the search, has publicly stated that he does not suspect foul play. In updates shared via the family’s website, he expressed gratitude for the local support and emphasized that the investigation is still in progress.
