Google has officially introduced the Googlebook, a flagship laptop category designed to place Gemini artificial intelligence at the core of the user experience. According to the official Google blog announcement, the hardware is engineered to run Gemini directly on the device, aiming to anticipate user needs and proactively simplify complex workflows.
Starting at $899, the device is positioned as a high-performance machine that bridges the gap between traditional laptop utility and agentic AI capabilities. It includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, which grants users 5TB of cloud storage, access to Gemini Advanced, and additional software perks like Adobe Photoshop and YouTube Premium.
AI-Powered Interface Features
The core innovation lies in its system-level intelligence, which introduces several new interaction paradigms:
- Magic Pointer: By wiggling the cursor, users can invoke Gemini to interpret text, images, and screen context. This allows for instant tasks, such as highlighting a training plan on a website to automatically populate a Google Calendar, or verifying the legitimacy of a suspicious email by analyzing its contents.
- Rambler: This voice dictation tool is designed to filter out filler words and speech errors. It organizes spoken thoughts into structured action items and supports native multilingual switching in real-time.
- Create My Widget: Users can build custom dashboard widgets without coding experience by simply describing their needs to Gemini, such as tracking sports scores or countdowns.
Developer Tools and Ecosystem
For power users and developers, the Googlebook includes Google Antigravity, an environment that allows for the creation and deployment of custom applications. The system also supports a full Linux terminal, enabling developers to execute agentic coding tasks using tools like the Antigravity CLI or Claude Code directly on the machine.
Availability and Security
Google has emphasized privacy as a core design principle, noting that features like Magic Pointer remain inactive until explicitly summoned. The hardware is powered by the Titan C security chip. Pre-orders are currently open via the Google Store and select retailers, with retail availability beginning October 4 in the U.S. and October 5 in several international markets, including the U.K., Canada, France, Germany, and Australia.
