Former NBA MVP Kevin Garnett has suggested that a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers could serve as an ideal career move for LeBron James, primarily to support the growth of his son, Bronny James. Speaking on the KG Certified podcast, Garnett argued that moving away from the intense spotlight of the Los Angeles Lakers would provide the younger James with more “open leverage” to establish his own identity in the league.
Bronny James concluded his season with the Lakers averaging 2.9 points and 1.2 assists across 42 games, while shooting 38.6 percent from three-point range. Garnett noted that this efficiency as a perimeter specialist could make him a valuable, low-cost asset for a Cleveland roster that is currently constrained by salary cap limitations. By joining a team like the Cavaliers, Bronny could shift his focus to a defined role—defending and hitting open shots—rather than carrying the creation demands often associated with the Lakers’ rotation.
While the prospect of a reunion with the franchise where LeBron James began his career holds significant sentimental and legacy appeal, financial hurdles remain. Industry reports indicate that the Cavaliers would likely require LeBron to accept a minimum contract to maintain their current core of Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. Despite these fiscal challenges, Garnett emphasized that the move offers a unique opportunity for the James family to solidify their legacy in the city where it all started.
