Magic Eden Users Begin Reclaiming NFTs Following Whitehat Rescue

Magic Eden

Quick Read

  • A recovery portal, nftsaresafu.xyz, is live for NFTs rescued from a 2024 Magic Eden payment processor exploit.
  • Users must revoke old on-chain approvals to reclaim their assets safely.
  • Over 2,300 of the 26,448 rescued assets have been claimed so far.
  • The exploit affected Ethereum, Polygon, Base, Arbitrum, and ApeChain, with at least .8 million in stolen assets reported.

Recovery Site Goes Live

A dedicated portal, nftsaresafu.xyz, has been launched to allow owners to reclaim NFTs secured by whitehat researchers during a recent security incident. The exploit targeted 2024-era Magic Eden users through a vulnerability in Limit Break’s Payment Processor, leading to the unauthorized movement of assets across multiple chains, including Ethereum, Polygon, Base, Arbitrum, and ApeChain, according to Cryptonews.

0xQuit, a vice president of blockchain research at Yuga Labs who led the rescue mission, confirmed the site’s launch on X. As of the latest reports, over 2,300 of the 26,448 recovered assets have already been reclaimed by their rightful owners. The recovery process is free, requiring only standard network gas fees.

Security Requirements for Claimants

To prevent re-exposure, users must first revoke the problematic Payment Processor approval that enabled the exploit. Security firm Revoke.cash noted that simply canceling listings is ineffective, as the vulnerability is tied directly to the on-chain approval itself. The incident stems from an older trading protocol adopted by Magic Eden in 2024, which left active permissions on-chain even after the platform ceased using Limit Break’s processor.

Because the V2 protocol cannot be patched or paused, it remains inherently vulnerable. 0xQuit warned that the claim process interacts with a delegated wallet setup, which may occasionally interfere with transaction simulations in some crypto wallets.

Scope of the Incident

The exploit resulted in at least $2.8 million in total losses, with whitehats successfully securing approximately $5.7 million worth of assets before they could be fully drained by malicious actors. While thousands of NFTs were saved, some assets—including 660 WETH—were lost before researchers could intervene. Additionally, holders of specific ERC721C or ERC1155C collections may face temporary issues claiming assets due to transfer validator rules; these cases are being addressed by 0xQuit and his team on an ongoing basis.

Magic Eden, which closed its EVM marketplace in early 2026, has advised users to perform a full audit of their approvals on Ethereum, Polygon, and Base. Users are strongly cautioned to access the recovery tool only through verified channels to avoid falling victim to secondary phishing attempts.
