Court Proceedings Commence
Award-winning actor Micheal Ward, known for his roles in Top Boy and Blue Story, has appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court to face trial on multiple charges of rape and sexual assault. The 28-year-old actor, who won a BAFTA Rising Star award in 2020, stands accused of assaulting a woman in a car in 2023.
According to proceedings reported by the BBC, the prosecution alleges the incident occurred shortly after the pair met at a nightclub in north-east London. The complainant testified in a recorded police interview, played for jurors on Monday, that she felt “scared” and “numb” during the encounter, claiming the actor prevented her from leaving his vehicle.
Defense Position
Micheal Ward has entered a plea of not guilty to two charges of rape and three counts of sexual assault. In a formal statement provided to police following his arrest, Ward maintained that all sexual activity between him and the complainant was consensual.
The defense counsel is expected to contest the version of events presented by the prosecution as the trial continues. Ward, who appeared in court wearing a blue shirt and burgundy tie, remains central to the high-profile case which carries significant professional and personal stakes for the performer.
The trial is ongoing, with the court expected to hear further testimony in the coming days.
