London Climate Action Week 2026, running from June 20 to 28, has commenced with a series of high-level discussions aimed at addressing the climate and nature emergency. Organizations including Global Witness are convening experts, policymakers, and frontline activists to tackle critical issues such as Big Oil profiteering, the protection of environmental defenders, and the transparency of the mining sector.
Key events scheduled throughout the week include a session on the recognition of environmental human rights defenders, a multi-stakeholder dialogue on resource allocation for community-led climate solutions, and a discussion on reimagining global climate governance. A notable event on June 25, hosted in partnership with the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), will focus on the responsible sourcing of minerals essential for the energy transition.
Metropolitan Police Investigation in Battersea
Parallel to these global discussions, the Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 17-year-old boy in Battersea, south London. Emergency services, including the London Air Ambulance, were called to Glycena Road near Lavender Hill at approximately 04:20 BST following reports of a stabbing.
Despite medical intervention, the victim died at the scene. Det Ch Insp Brian Howie of the Metropolitan Police stated that inquiries are progressing intensively. Authorities are currently appealing for witnesses, specifically asking anyone who observed a group of males in the vicinity of Glycena, Acanthus, or Pountney Road between 04:00 and 05:00 to provide information, CCTV, or doorbell footage. No arrests have been made at this time, and a significant police presence remains in the area.
