Nissan has introduced a mid-life facelift for the X-Trail for the 2026 model year, focusing on minor aesthetic refinements and a simplified powertrain lineup. The update features a wider V-Motion grille, revised front bumpers with larger air intakes, and signature boomerang LED tail-lights. Inside, the cabin now includes dual 12.3-inch displays as standard across the range, with higher-spec trims gaining integrated Google services.
Mechanically, Nissan has discontinued the entry-level mild-hybrid engine, making the e-Power hybrid system standard for all new models. The brand has also reintroduced the rugged ‘N-Trek’ trim, which features water-resistant ‘CellCloth’ upholstery and distinct styling cues. Despite these changes, reviewers note that the driving experience remains largely consistent with the previous iteration, facing stiff competition from more spacious and efficient rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008.
Safety Recall Impacts e-Power Units
While the facelift aims to boost market appeal, Nissan is simultaneously addressing a significant safety concern. According to reports from CarExpert, Nissan Australia has issued a nationwide recall for nearly 14,000 X-Trail e-Power vehicles. The recall addresses a fault in the Lithium-ion Battery Controller (LBC) software.
The manufacturer states that the software issue may cause the vehicle to enter a ‘fail-safe’ mode while driving or during regenerative braking. This malfunction can lead to a sudden loss of motive power, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. Owners of affected vehicles are being contacted by Nissan to have their software reprogrammed at authorized dealerships free of charge.
