The Philadelphia 76ers are actively pursuing NBA superstar LeBron James during the 2026 free agency period. Mike Gansey, the team’s president of basketball operations, confirmed that the organization is intentionally holding an open roster spot in anticipation of a potential move.
“I have known LeBron for a long time. I have a ton of respect for him,” Gansey stated. “Obviously, I think he would be a great fit for our group, and of course, would love to have him.”
Despite the team’s public interest, recent betting data from Polymarket suggests Philadelphia’s chances of securing James have dropped to approximately six percent. The market currently favors the Cleveland Cavaliers at 63 percent, followed by the Miami Heat at 17 percent and the Golden State Warriors at 14 percent.
The 76ers recently bolstered their roster by acquiring Jaylen Brown, creating a core that includes Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. If signed, James would likely be utilized at the power forward position, a strategic shift for the veteran star. While the 76ers remain in contention, the league awaits James’ final decision as the free agency period progresses.
