An active search and rescue operation is currently underway in the waters off the coast of Cancun, Mexico, following reports that a crew member has gone missing from the Regal Princess cruise ship. The vessel, which departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday, July 11, has adjusted its itinerary due to the incident.

Princess Cruises confirmed the situation in a statement, noting that the crew member remains unaccounted for. “Princess is coordinating closely with maritime authorities, and search efforts remain ongoing,” the company stated. “Our thoughts are with the crew member, their family, and all those impacted by this situation.”

Passengers aboard the Regal Princess were reportedly notified of the search efforts early Monday morning, July 13. As a result of the ongoing emergency operation, the cruise ship canceled its scheduled stop in Cancun. The vessel, which entered service in 2014, currently carries over 3,500 passengers and approximately 1,346 crew members. Authorities continue to lead the search efforts as the company provides support to the onboard team.
