Significance of the Address to Congress

On March 5, US President Donald Trump addressed a joint session of the US Congress House of Representatives and Senate, presenting the situation in the country and the priority directions of domestic and foreign policy. Following tradition, presidents deliver annual messages to Congress, but since Trump took office as president for the second time on January 20, this speech was not a full annual report, but rather an introductory address highlighting the administration’s main goals.

War Against Criminal Drug Cartels

At the beginning of his speech, Trump declared the start of a war by the United States against drug cartels. “The area south of our border is under the total control of criminal cartels that kill, rape and torture. They pose a serious threat to our national security. Cartels are waging war in America, and now it is time for America to go to war with the cartels, and that’s what we’re doing,” he announced. Trump also emphasized the importance of cooperation with Mexico in this fight, adding that Mexico had already handed over 29 of the largest cartel leaders to the United States.

Zelensky’s Readiness for Peace Talks

Turning to the Ukraine conflict, Trump announced that he had received a letter from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, in which the latter declared his readiness for peace talks. “Ukraine is ready to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring sustainable peace closer. “No one wants peace more than Ukrainians,” Trump quoted from Zelensky’s letter. He also criticized the volume of US financial aid to Ukraine, comparing it to “taking candy from a child,” and expressed discontent that Europe is spending more money buying Russian energy than defending Ukraine.

Criticism of Biden’s Economic Policy

Trump also sharply criticized the economic policy of Joe Biden’s administration, which, according to him, led to an “economic disaster” and a sharp increase in inflation. “Their policies have raised energy prices, raised food costs, and made basic necessities unaffordable for millions and millions of Americans,” Trump declared, pointing out that the US is suffering from the worst inflation in the last 48 years. He added that his administration is taking steps to reduce energy prices and curb inflation, including declaring a state of emergency in the energy sector.

Criticism of Wasteful Spending

In his speech, Trump also addressed wasteful government spending, criticizing the funds spent on promoting left-wing ideas in Moldova, male circumcision in Mozambique, creating transgender mice, and financing the Arabic “Sesame Street.” He specifically mentioned the $32 million spent on Moldova to promote left-wing ideas. Trump also drew attention to problems with the social security database, which, according to him, includes people of incredible ages.

Congressman Green’s Incident

Trump’s speech was not without incident. Democratic Congressman Al Green repeatedly tried to interrupt the president’s speech, as a result of which he was removed from the hall by order of House Speaker Mike Johnson. Green clarified that his action was due to a desire to stand up to Trump. In addition, a number of Democrats reacted negatively to Trump’s speech, booing him.

Discontent with Treatment on the Internet

Concluding his speech, Trump declared that he is treated worse on the internet than anyone else. “No one is treated worse on the Internet than me. No one,” he said, highlighting the criticism he faces in the online space.
