First-Quarter Surge and Lineup Adjustments
The tactical shift paid immediate dividends as the Warriors overwhelmed the visiting side from the opening tip. Playing on the second night of a preseason back-to-back, the Lakers rested several key rotation players, including Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, Walker Kessler, Ziaire Williams, and Matisse Thybulle, leaving them down seven rotation pieces, as noted by Silver Screen and Roll. Golden State took full advantage of the shorthanded opponent, racing to a 45-point first quarter and building an 81-53 halftime lead before resting starters Steph Curry and Draymond Green for the entire second half.
Lendeborg and Curry Lead the Charge
Curry orchestrated the fast-paced offense with precision, scoring 16 points in just 14 minutes of action while hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg capitalized on increased playing time and encouragement from veteran teammates, contributing 17 points, nine rebounds, and active playmaking across multiple positions. Brandin Podziemski also bounced back from a prior shooting slump to add 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Warriors.
Lakers Bench Performance
Despite the lopsided score and an early timeout called by coach JJ Redick within the first minute of regulation, the depleted Lakers found minor offensive sparks from their bench. Sandro Mamukelashvili and Quentin Grimes each scored 12 points, while Jaden Hardy chipped in 13 points and four rebounds off the bench. Los Angeles struggled defensively against Golden State’s 112-rating pace in the first half but managed to stabilize portions of the second half during extended minutes for younger prospects.
Next Steps in Preseason Schedule
Following Tuesday’s victory, Warriors coach Steve Kerr announced that veterans Curry, Green, and Al Horford will not travel with the team for the second leg of a back-to-back against the Portland Trail Blazers. Meanwhile, the Lakers look ahead to their next preseason test against the Sacramento Kings.
