On December 9, police officers in Armenia’s Syunik Province successfully apprehended fugitives who attempted to flee and uncovered large quantities of narcotics. According to operational intelligence received by the Patrol Service battalion, a “Toyota” vehicle traveling along the Meghri-Yerevan M2 highway was suspected of transporting illegal substances.

At the 43rd kilometer of the Meghri-Yerevan highway, patrol officers identified the suspicious vehicle and stopped it. The driver denied any contraband or illegal items in the car. However, one of the passengers attempted to flee the scene, prompting officers to detain the driver in their patrol car and initiate a pursuit.

After a two-kilometer chase, the officers managed to apprehend the suspects. Further investigation led to the discovery of packages containing substances resembling narcotics in a nearby ravine.

It was revealed during the investigation that the detainees were residents of Gegharkunik Province: 44-year-old Aram Chagharyan and 34-year-old Andranik Baghdasaryan, along with 58-year-old Abel Voskanyan from Syunik Province.

The seized items included 3,981 grams of marijuana, 5,474 grams of heroin, and 2,000 methadone pills. One of the suspects admitted that the drugs had been delivered to them via the Armenia-Iran border, thrown over barbed wire by an Iranian citizen near the Alvanq and Shvanidzor village crossroads in the Meghri community.

Aram Chagharyan and Andranik Baghdasaryan have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing to uncover all details surrounding the case.
