The Department of Public Relations of Yerevan Municipality has informed Azat TV that according to the decision of Yerevan Council of Elders, a statue of People’s Artist of Armenia, actor and director Yervand Manaryan has been unveiled at 4 Sayat-Nova Avenue, in front of the Hovhannes Tumanyan National Puppet Theater.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office Arayik Harutyunyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, and representatives of the cultural sector.
The bronze statue was created by sculptor Armenak Vardanyan, a member of the Artists’ Union of Armenia, with architect Mikayel Misakyan.
The statue was installed in the capital to mark the 100th anniversary of the great artist’s birth. The Government of Armenia allocated 65 million drams for the creation and installation of the statue.
The unveiling ceremony was followed by a postage stamp cancellation ceremony and a photo exhibition dedicated to the renowned actor’s centenary. A single stamp has been put into circulation dedicated to the theme “Great Armenians: 100th Anniversary of Yervand Manaryan’s Birth.” The stamp, with a nominal value of 380 AMD, features Yervand Manaryan (1924-2020).
The right section of the stamp contains the inscriptions “100th ANNIVERSARY,” “YERVAND MANARYAN,” and “Armenian actor, director” in both Armenian and English.
