Quick Read

  • Amazon plans to reach B in total India investment by 2030.
  • AWS revenue grew 28% YoY to .6B in Q1 2026.
  • Competitors Microsoft and Google are also committing billions to Indian AI infrastructure.
  • Insider selling of .6M in the last three months suggests cautious sentiment.

Strategic Expansion in India

Amazon has officially committed an additional $13 billion toward its infrastructure in India, bringing the tech giant’s total planned capital expenditure in the country to $48 billion by 2030. According to reports, this funding is primarily earmarked for expanding AWS data center capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, while integrating custom AI chips and advanced developer tools.

Beyond digital infrastructure, the company plans to deploy over 20 new fulfillment centers and 100 delivery stations throughout 2026. This logistical push aims to accelerate Amazon’s reach into India’s tier 3 and tier 4 cities, catering to a rapidly digitizing consumer base.

Global Infrastructure Spending

This commitment follows a period of heavy capital investment for Amazon, which reported $43.2 billion in cash capital expenditures during the first quarter of 2026. With a projected annual capex of approximately $200 billion for the year, management maintains that this spending is essential to building durable, long-duration infrastructure to meet the surging demand for generative AI and cloud workloads.

While AWS saw a 28% year-over-year revenue growth to $37.6 billion, the scale of these investments has raised questions regarding near-term free cash flow. Analysts note that Amazon faces stiff competition in the region; Microsoft has pledged $17.5 billion for Indian cloud infrastructure through 2029, and Google is investing roughly $15 billion into a gigawatt-scale AI hub.

Market Valuation and Outlook

Despite the aggressive spending, Amazon’s stock remains a focal point for investors. While some valuation metrics from Zacks indicate a premium forward P/E of 24.89X, GuruFocus data suggests potential undervaluation, citing a GF Value of $233.18. However, recent insider activity—characterized by $51.6 million in sales over the last three months—has prompted some analysts to monitor the stock with caution as the company navigates this capital-intensive phase.
