Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry’s Misinformation Denied for the Second Time

border

The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan has once again disseminated misinformation, which, according to Armenia’s Ministry of Defense (MoD), does not correspond to reality. Azerbaijan’s MoD claimed that on January 6, at around 2:10 PM, units of the Armenian Armed Forces opened fire on Azerbaijani positions located in the southeastern section of the border. Armenia’s MoD officially denied this claim, emphasizing that it is entirely false.

Such statements have become a recurring issue, escalating tensions in Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. This is the second time Armenia’s MoD has refuted similar accusations from Azerbaijan’s MoD, calling them deliberate misinformation.

It is worth recalling that Armenia previously proposed establishing a joint Armenia-Azerbaijan mechanism to investigate cases of ceasefire violations and related reports. This initiative, aimed at reducing tensions and fostering trust, has so far received no response from Azerbaijan.

The continued dissemination of misinformation by Azerbaijan’s MoD raises questions: are these actions deliberately aimed at escalating border tensions? This situation underscores the need for not only clear denials but also international mediation to mitigate the potential negative consequences of such disinformation campaigns.
