Recovery Process Underway
Legendary Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler has regained consciousness after spending a month in a medically induced coma. Her management team released a statement on Monday confirming that while the 75-year-old artist is no longer in a coma, she remains “very unwell” and is currently receiving intensive care in Faro, Portugal.
The health crisis began in April when Tyler, who maintains a home in the region, was hospitalized for emergency intestinal surgery following intense abdominal pain. Complications following the procedure led to her being placed in an induced coma. Reports from local media suggest the singer suffered a cardiac arrest during initial attempts to rouse her from the coma several weeks ago.
Tour Cancellations and Outlook
Due to the prolonged recovery process, Tyler’s management has announced the cancellation of all scheduled concerts through the end of August. While doctors remain “confident” that the singer will make a full recovery, they have characterized the process as slow and requiring significant time.
“Although her condition is improving, it is a slow process,” the statement noted. Representatives have requested privacy for the singer and her family, promising to provide further updates when there are significant developments regarding her health.
Known for her distinctive raspy voice and global hits such as “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” “It’s a Heartache,” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” Tyler has enjoyed a career spanning over five decades. Most recently, she was honored with an MBE in 2023 for her services to music.
