German authorities have officially banned the screening and distribution of the film Citizen Vigilante, citing concerns that its content incites violence against migrants. The film, directed by Uwe Boll and starring Armie Hammer, portrays a man who launches a violent campaign targeting immigrants following a series of crimes.
The prohibition comes as the film faces significant international scrutiny over its graphic nature and political themes. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Boll defended the project while simultaneously criticizing the broader Hollywood establishment. He alleged that while industry executives at major platforms like Netflix, Apple, and Amazon often publicly maintain cordial relations with figures like Donald Trump, they privately harbor strong opposition to his politics.
Boll claimed that the industry’s leadership is overwhelmingly left-leaning, stating, “They schmooze up to Trump, but most of them hate him.” He further argued that these companies are “so politically correct” that they refuse to greenlight content that challenges contemporary social narratives. The director maintains that his film is a critical work, despite the backlash and the legal hurdles it has encountered in the European market. Citizen Vigilante was released in the United States on June 19, 2026.
