Emergency crews were called to a major fire at a recycling facility on Everite Road in Widnes on the afternoon of Monday, June 22, 2026. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that the blaze involves approximately 700 tonnes of waste cardboard within a 50m by 50m single-storey structure.

Eight fire engines from stations including Widnes, Runcorn, Penketh, and Warrington are currently on the scene. Due to significant concerns regarding the structural integrity of the building, firefighting operations are being conducted exclusively from the exterior. Authorities confirmed that all individuals associated with the facility have been accounted for, and there are currently no reported casualties.

Local residents and businesses have been urged to keep all windows and doors closed to minimize the risk of smoke inhalation, as a large plume of black smoke remains visible across the area. Cheshire Police are managing traffic diversions around the site to ensure emergency vehicle access. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
