On June 22, 2026, X (formerly Twitter) experienced a significant platform-wide outage, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access the site, log in, or publish content. According to outage-tracking platform Downdetector, reports of the disruption peaked around 9:00 a.m. local time, with over 30,000 users documenting issues.
While initial reports suggested potential widespread web instability, investigations identified the root cause as a failure within the network infrastructure of the provider Zayo. Cloudflare, which also monitored the situation, confirmed that the disruption was not internal to their own systems but stemmed from a fiber cut in Eastern North America that impacted multiple major platforms relying on Zayo’s network.
The outage highlights the fragility of shared digital infrastructure, where a single regional fiber cut can result in cascading effects on global communications. While X representatives did not immediately provide a statement regarding the incident, services began returning to normal as Zayo and other network engineers implemented mitigation strategies throughout the morning.
