Cora Gold Advances Flagship Mali Site Toward Mine Build

Arid landscape with sparse trees and eroded earth at the Sanankoro gold project site

Quick Read

  • Cora Gold completed fieldwork, workflows, and 3D processing plant modeling under its FEED program for the Sanankoro gold project in Mali.
  • FEED studies managed by DRA Global’s SENET subsidiary remain on track to wrap up in the fourth quarter.
  • Land compensation for a 174-hectare tailings storage facility is complete, and the operational exploration camp has been upgraded.
  • Drilling aims to expand the resource base beyond one million ounces while talks continue with Mali’s authorities over a unified mining permit.

West Africa-focused mineral developer Cora Gold has completed critical technical design work and early site preparations at its flagship Sanankoro gold project in southern Mali, putting the property on track for mine construction as soon as full regulatory clearances are granted.

As reported by Mining Weekly, the company concluded all field studies, operational workflows, and three-dimensional processing plant modeling under its front-end engineering design (FEED) program. The detailed engineering package, commissioned in May and managed by SENET, a specialized engineering unit of DRA Global, remains scheduled for delivery within the fourth quarter.

Detailed Engineering and Procurement Strides

The completion of technical workflows has permitted engineers to refine designs across core processing units. Cora Gold Chief Executive Officer Bert Monro confirmed that design submissions to SENET enabled selective detailed architectural and engineering drawings across the run-of-mine handling area, primary crushing, transfer circuits, scrubber systems, and ball milling infrastructure.

Technical planning also advanced across downstream extraction circuits, including carbon-in-leach (CIL), elution processing, and carbon regeneration systems. Commercial engagement has begun with heavy equipment manufacturers to secure major long-lead machinery, specifically comminution circuits and elution modules, ensuring procurement timelines align with planned civil works once ground operations commence.

Clearing Site Footprints and Infrastructure Upgrades

Alongside processing design, the exploration company finalized the land compensation framework covering 174 hectares allocated for the mine’s future tailings storage facility. Clearing legal and local community rights over the planned impoundment area removes a frequent bottleneck encountered by greenfield developers transitioning into capital-intensive construction phases.

Concurrently, Cora finished upgrading its permanent exploration and support camp. Infrastructure enhancements included new accommodation blocks, reinforced security perimeters and access gates, expanded water containment facilities, and modernized sanitation systems to house larger construction crews.

Resource Growth and Licensing Framework

Cora Gold is seeking to expand Sanankoro’s mineral inventory beyond one million ounces under the Joint Ore Reserves Committee standard. Ongoing drilling continues to test extensions of known mineralized bodies alongside satellite targets adjacent to the deposit footprint. Monro indicated that establishing a larger reserve base is intended to support an open-pit, high-margin gold operation over an extended commercial lifecycle.

The company remains in formal consultations with the government of Mali regarding an exploration permit application and an administrative reshaping exercise designed to unify all operational infrastructure under a single, unified mining lease. Mali’s Council of Ministers previously cleared the initial interim renewal for the Sanankoro II exploration license, marking procedural support as negotiations over long-term mining tenure proceed.
