Cignetti, who inherited a program that struggled to fill seats, emphasized the dramatic change in the team’s trajectory. “What are we, 29-2?” Cignetti noted, highlighting the shift from a time when the stadium saw sparse attendance to the program’s current status as a national championship contender. “I mean, when we came, I saw the pictures. 10,000 people in the stands. Don’t b**** about a 38-0 win,” he stated.
Performance and Context
The Hoosiers’ offense, led by quarterback Josh Hoover, who threw for 273 yards and two touchdowns, struggled to find an immediate rhythm against Western Kentucky. The team did not score until late in the second quarter, leading 14-0 at halftime before scoring additional touchdowns in the second half to secure the shutout. People have a hard time believing that. Two years ago nobody believed we were a good football team. Same deal,” Cignetti said.
