Professional tennis player Daria Kasatkina has successfully advanced to the second round of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships. Kasatkina secured her progression on the opening day of the tournament after defeating Mimi Xu in a competitive three-set match.
According to reports from Loughborough University’s National Tennis Academy (LUNTA), where Xu is an alumna, the match tested Kasatkina’s form on the grass courts as she was pushed to a final-set decider. The victory marks a significant start for Kasatkina in the prestigious Grand Slam event, which runs from June 29 to July 12.
While Xu, the 2025 Lexus Wrexham Open winner, exited the tournament following this defeat, her performance highlighted the high level of competition in the opening stages of the Championships. Kasatkina now prepares for her next opponent as she continues her campaign at the All England Club.
