Penrith fullback Dylan Edwards has been crowned the club’s best player for the 2026 season, securing the prestigious Merv Cartwright Medal for the second time in his career. According to the Western Weekender, the 30-year-old was named Player of the Year on Tuesday night during a ceremony held at the Western Sydney Convention Centre in Penrith.
In a result that surprised many attendees, Edwards edged out recent Dally M winner and teammate Nathan Cleary for the club’s highest honor. The trophy was presented by former Panthers great and Merv’s son, John Cartwright. Reflecting on his career and longevity in the sport, Edwards stated on stage that he would play forever if his body allowed it, while expressing gratitude to his wife Nadine and his teammates for their constant support throughout a demanding campaign.
On-Field Impact And Season Statistics
Edwards played an integral role for the Panthers throughout 2026, featuring in 23 matches. His attacking output included 12 tries and two goals, alongside 10 try assists, 117 tackle breaks, and nine line breaks. These consistent performances established him as the cornerstone of Penrith’s spine and ultimately secured him the club’s premier individual accolade.
“Winning an individual award in a team sport is a funny one, I definitely give thanks to my teammates, everyone in this squad… I’m very grateful to be in the position that I am,” Edwards told the audience at the convention center.
