The European Parliament has voted to grant temporary autonomous trade measures to Armenia, opening the door for duty-free exports of hundreds of local products into the European Union’s single market.

According to an announcement from the EU Delegation to Armenia, 583 Members of the European Parliament voted in favor of the regulation on September 15. The legislative proposal now advances to final approval before coming into legal effect across the 27-member bloc.

Once fully ratified, the framework will eliminate customs duties for a period of two years on more than 300 groups of Armenian goods. The duty-free status covers a wide spectrum of agricultural and processed foodstuffs, including fruit preserves, juices, dried fruits, nuts, herbs, and spices. It also extends to key industrial outputs, ranging from textiles to footwear.

The Delegation highlighted that the decision will grant Armenian producers direct access to a market of 450 million consumers without tariff barriers. The measure is intended to strengthen Armenia’s export sector and diversify its commercial partners.

These unilateral trade concessions form part of a broader European Union assistance package for Yerevan. Alongside tariff relief, the program includes accelerated financial aid to help stabilize the domestic economy and targeted technical support. The EU is assisting local farmers, manufacturers, and exporters in meeting European sanitary, phytosanitary, and quality standards while facilitating connections with European buyers.
