Owners of certain GoodHome integrated fridge freezers purchased at B&Q Ireland are being urged to immediately disconnect their appliances following an urgent safety recall issued by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC). The recall affects approximately 63 units distributed between February 2022 and April 2026, due to a critical defect in the automatic defrost mechanism that poses both fire and electric shock risks.
Identifying Affected GoodHome Models
The recall specifically concerns two models of the GoodHome Classic Integrated Automatic Defrost Fridge Freezer in white. Consumers should verify their appliance status by inspecting the rating label located inside the compartment door. The affected models include the GHBI7030FFUK (70:30 split) with barcode 5059340169538, and the GHBI5050FFUK (50:50 split) with barcode 5059340169545. Owners are advised to stop using the units and unplug them from the mains power supply immediately to prevent potential overheating or electrical failure.
Compensation and Replacement Procedures
Kingfisher International Products BV, the manufacturer, has outlined several resolution pathways for impacted customers. Those affected may choose between a full refund plus €170 to cover alternative installation costs, a free replacement unit with a €170 installation allowance, or a free replacement unit with professional installation arranged directly by B&Q. Furthermore, the company has confirmed that affected consumers may be eligible to claim up to €85 for any food items that spoiled as a result of the appliance failure.
How to Contact B&Q Support
Customers should not attempt to dispose of or sell the recalled units, as B&Q will manage the collection process. For assistance with the replacement or refund process, or to register a claim for spoiled food, owners are instructed to contact the B&Q Customer Services Helpline at 1800 946 327. The helpline operates Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, and on Sundays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The scale of this recall, while limited to 63 units, underscores the persistent challenges in managing safety defects within integrated kitchen appliances, where internal components like defrost systems remain difficult for consumers to monitor until a failure occurs.
