Lewis Hamilton has been issued a formal reprimand by FIA stewards following an investigation into a yellow flag infringement during the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The incident occurred on Lap 38, when the seven-time World Champion failed to sufficiently reduce his speed while passing through a yellow flag zone at Turn 9.

According to the official stewards’ report, Hamilton entered the sector before official panels displayed the warning, and the yellow light on his steering wheel appeared only briefly. While investigators acknowledged that the driver’s attention was diverted by a battle with Max Verstappen, they determined that Hamilton did not make a “discernible reduction of speed” once the warning was visible, constituting a breach of racing regulations.

The reprimand is Hamilton’s first of the 2026 season. It adds to a difficult afternoon for the Mercedes driver, who earlier served a five-second time penalty for a false start and finished the race in third place. Charles Leclerc took the victory at Silverstone, while Hamilton admitted that setup issues, specifically regarding the front wing, hindered his performance throughout the weekend.
