A Career-Defining Breakthrough for Majchrzak
Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak secured his first-ever ATP title at the 2026 Libema Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch on June 14, defeating Australian second seed Alex de Minaur in a hard-fought three-set final. The 30-year-old triumphed 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (5) in a match lasting two hours and 26 minutes, marking a significant milestone in his professional journey.
Majchrzak’s path to the title was defined by resilience, as he overcame three consecutive top-10 opponents: Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev, and finally de Minaur. This victory propels him into the top 50 of the ATP rankings for the first time in his career. An emotional Majchrzak credited his support system for helping him persevere through long-term challenges, noting that without their encouragement, he likely would have retired years ago.
Montgomery’s Historic Walkover
In the women’s draw, American qualifier Robin Montgomery claimed her maiden WTA title in an unexpected manner. The 21-year-old was awarded the trophy after her final opponent, Barbora Krejcikova, withdrew from the match due to illness. Krejcikova expressed deep disappointment in a statement, noting that medical consultation confirmed she was unfit to compete.
Despite the anticlimactic finish, Montgomery’s run remains historic. Ranked No. 484 entering the tournament, she is the lowest-ranked player to win a WTA title since Elina Svitolina in 2023. Having returned to the circuit in April 2026 after a 10-month injury layoff, Montgomery’s victory significantly boosts her ranking to No. 194, setting a positive trajectory for her upcoming grass-court season.
