According to Azat TV the UK will sign a “historic agreement” with Germany next week, which is expected to create closer military and security ties with the EU, The Sunday Times reports.
The agreement will allow British and German forces to conduct joint exercises on NATO’s eastern border with Russia, likely in Estonia and Lithuania. The agreement will also allow countries to jointly acquire more weapons and lead to close cooperation in next-generation weapon development and production, strengthening the states’ defense industries against the background of armament depletion due to military aid to Ukraine.
The publication notes that the UK, Germany, and France – Europe’s largest military powers – are now discussing how they can take more responsibility in NATO, concerned that the US might weaken its role in the alliance if Donald Trump wins.
