Tactical Shifts Following European Defeat
AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim has officially confirmed his starting lineup for the upcoming fixture against Genoa, as reported by SempreMilan on November 8, 2026. The selection marks a significant shift in personnel following the club’s midweek defeat to Ferencvaros in the Europa League.
The most notable inclusion is captain Mike Maignan, who returns to the starting XI after serving a one-match suspension during Thursday’s continental competition. Amorim has opted for a 3-4-2-1 formation, aiming to stabilize the squad despite a persistent injury crisis that has sidelined several key first-team players.
Injury Crisis and Defensive Structure
Milan enters this match with a depleted roster. Long-term injuries continue to impact the squad, with Pietro Terracciano, Matteo Gabbia, Fikayo Tomori, Alexis Saelemaekers, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Samuel Chukwueze, and Strahinja Pavlovic all unavailable for selection. Due to these absences, the bench is heavily supplemented by prospects from Milan Futuro.
In the absence of established defensive mainstays, Amorim has deployed a three-man defensive line consisting of Mario Gila, Koni De Winter, and Sankhoun Diawara. The midfield pivot will feature the experience of Adrien Rabiot and Luka Modric, while Yunus Musah and Diego Moreira are tasked with providing width as wing-backs. Christian Pulisic and Alphadjo Cisse are set to operate as attacking midfielders behind lone striker Gonçalo Ramos. The club faces pressure to secure a positive result against a resurgent Genoa side to regain momentum in the league standings.
