Netflix is set to release the highly anticipated second season of its drama series Ransom Canyon on Thursday, July 23, marking the return of actress Minka Kelly to television screens. Kelly reprises her role as Quinn O’Grady, a former concert pianist, starring opposite Josh Duhamel in the Texas-based romantic drama.
The upcoming season consists of eight new episodes. Ransom Canyon has been widely described as a blend of the high-stakes ranching lifestyle seen in Yellowstone and the cozy, small-town romance of Virgin River. Season 2 picks up with Quinn returning to the ranching community after spending several months in New York, resuming her central “will-they-won’t-they” dynamic with Duhamel’s character.
A notable addition to this season is a confirmed appearance by Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds, who has been in a relationship with Kelly since 2022. According to Kelly, Reynolds visited the set during filming, prompting the show’s producers and writers to integrate him into the new season. “He came to visit and everyone, all the producers and writers, just naturally fell in love with him,” Kelly shared in an interview with People.
Beyond her current television work, Kelly’s personal background connects her directly to rock music history. Her father, Rick Dufay, served as a guitarist for the iconic rock band Aerosmith during the early 1980s. Dufay joined the group in 1981, performing on the album Rock in a Hard Place and touring North America before Brad Whitford returned to the lineup in 1984. Dufay is also credited with playing a key role in encouraging the estranged members of the original Aerosmith lineup to reconcile.
Kelly, who was raised primarily by her single mother, Maureen Dumont Kelly, has previously spoken about her complex path to reconciling with her father. After meeting him at age three, she later relocated to Los Angeles to rebuild their relationship, describing it as a “bumpy road” that ultimately led to a deep bond. Dufay has publicly expressed support for his daughter’s career, stating he is proud of her Hollywood achievements.
