Netflix’s new comedy series The Hawk has officially arrived on the streaming platform, bringing together a cast led by Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, and Fortune Feimster. The actors recently sat down with Audacy hosts at the Pelican Hill Golf Club to discuss the production and the creative process behind the show.
The series centers on a former golf champion, played by Will Ferrell, whose character is defined as much by his eccentric personality as by his unconventional wardrobe. Costume designer Christie Wittenborn, who led the aesthetic direction for Ferrell’s character, Lonnie, focused on moving away from the traditional, muted attire typically associated with professional golf.
The collaboration for the show’s wardrobe extended beyond the screen. Wittenborn worked with the Southern California lifestyle brand Willbo to create a collection inspired by the character’s look. According to Wittenborn, the development of this collection moved at “lightning speed” as the production team sought to translate the character’s outlandish fashion sense into a wearable reality. Wittenborn noted that the goal was strictly focused on character development, stating that the subsequent brand partnership was an organic outcome rather than an initial plan.
The show, which also features performances by Molly Shannon and Jimmy Tatro, explores the intersection of comedy and character-driven storytelling. For Wittenborn, whose recent credits include the Apple TV+ series Sugar, the transition between genres—from sci-fi noir to golf-themed comedy—is part of the broader effort to bring distinct personas to life through visual identity.
