Ontario residents eligible for federal and provincial support programs are set to receive payments throughout October 2026. According to reporting by North Bay Nipissing, the distribution schedule begins on October 5 with the second installment of the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit.
The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, which replaced the GST/HST credit in July 2026, continues to maintain the same eligibility criteria and payment structure as its predecessor. It provides quarterly, tax-free support to low- and modest-income individuals and families to help offset the rising costs of essential goods.
Provincial and Disability Support
The Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) is scheduled for distribution on October 9. While monthly OTB payments typically fall on the 10th, the schedule has been adjusted because October 10 falls on a Saturday. This benefit combines the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, the Northern Ontario Energy Credit, and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit.
For those relying on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), payments are scheduled to land on October 30. The ODSP provides financial assistance for living expenses, including food and rent, as well as coverage for prescription drugs, vision care, and employment support services.
Administrative Guidance and Deposits
Recipients are encouraged to utilize direct deposit to ensure timely access to funds. Because different federal and provincial agencies—such as the Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada—administer these programs, residents may need to coordinate with multiple departments to set up direct deposits for each specific benefit.
Officials advise that if a payment has not arrived by the expected date, recipients should wait at least 10 working days before contacting the relevant administering agency to resolve the issue.
