Parramatta Eels playmaker Ronald Volkman has confirmed his likely departure from the club at the conclusion of the 2026 NRL season. The 23-year-old, whose current contract expires this year, indicated that the Eels are moving in a different direction following the impending arrival of Jarome Luai.

While Volkman expressed a desire to remain with Parramatta, he acknowledged the business realities of the club’s roster management. “I would love to stay at Parramatta, but I think they’re heading in a different direction, which I totally understand,” Volkman told AAP this week. He noted that while the signing of Luai brought a “sinking” feeling, he remains focused on his current training and performance for the remainder of the campaign.

Speculation regarding his future has intensified following reports from Fox Sports’ NRL 360, which linked the playmaker to the Canterbury Bulldogs. Agent and program host Braith Anasta reported that Volkman had been seen in the vicinity of the Bulldogs’ facilities recently, fueling rumors of a potential transfer. Despite the uncertainty, Volkman has ruled out a move to England, stating his clear preference to remain in the NRL, which he describes as the “top competition” for rugby league.

Since joining the Eels, Volkman has evolved from a support role into a starting half, appearing in 16 games this season. As he prepares for his next career move, his focus remains on maintaining his professional standards and contributing to his current teammates.
