A Gradual Approach to Weight Management
Comedian and former talk show host Rosie O’Donnell has provided a detailed account of her health transformation, crediting a slow-titration approach to the GLP-1 medication Mounjaro for her success. In a July 27 appearance on the “Bleep!” podcast with Ana Navarro, the 64-year-old revealed that she has lost approximately 65 pounds over the course of three years.
O’Donnell, who was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes three years ago, emphasized that her avoidance of common side effects—such as nausea or digestive issues—is likely due to her conservative dosing schedule. She spent the first year on a 2.5mg weekly dose, the second year at 5mg, and is currently finishing her third year at 7.5mg. According to the manufacturer, Eli Lilly, the maximum recommended dose for the medication is 15mg, making O’Donnell’s approach significantly slower than standard medical titration.
Addressing ‘Food Noise’ and Lifestyle Changes
The entertainer described Mounjaro as a “miracle drug,” noting that it effectively “quieted the food noise” that had challenged her throughout her life. Beyond the chemical impact of the medication, O’Donnell noted significant behavioral shifts. She reported that she has largely eliminated sugar from her diet and replaced her habit of drinking five to six Diet Cokes a day with water consumption.
The Decision for Facial Rejuvenation
While the weight loss improved her health markers, O’Donnell candidly discussed the cosmetic consequences of rapid weight loss, specifically the loss of facial volume and the appearance of “marionette lines.” In a Substack essay published in May, she acknowledged that she initially felt a sense of conflict regarding cosmetic surgery, describing it as a potential “betrayal” of her long-held feminist principles regarding aging.
However, after witnessing the changes in her own reflection, she opted for a facelift in January. O’Donnell stated that she wanted to be transparent about the procedure, noting that she dislikes secrets and aimed to clarify that her appearance was not the result of natural aging alone. She acknowledged feeling some internal shame regarding the cost and the “excess” of the procedure but ultimately decided that prioritizing her own comfort with her appearance was the right choice.
