Broadcaster Sara Cox is set to debut as the host of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on July 6. The 51-year-old presenter, who has spent the last seven years hosting the station’s 4-7pm teatime slot, expressed confidence ahead of the transition, noting that her 28 years of industry experience have prepared her for the high-profile role.
Speaking to the Sunday Times magazine, Cox emphasized that while the move to the morning slot is a significant change, she remains focused on maintaining the show’s core appeal. A key adjustment to the format will be the inclusion of celebrity guests, a departure from her previous afternoon show which relied heavily on listener engagement. “The big difference is that we didn’t have a single celebrity on teatime. The stars were always the regular listeners calling in. So I am going to take them with me to breakfast, but we’ll have a bit of Hollywood too,” Cox stated.
To manage the early schedule, which requires leaving home by 5:30am, Cox has established a strict evening routine, including a 9pm bedtime. She dismissed concerns regarding nerves, citing her extensive professional background. The vacancy for the morning show arose following the departure of Scott Mills earlier this year.
