Janney, who won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Diplomat, used part of her platform to draw attention to the ongoing disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, who was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31.
Speaking on the Today show on September 15, Guthrie described the tribute as deeply touching. “It is her moment. Her triumph. And for her to sit and just take a moment and think about our family,” Guthrie said. She emphasized that the gesture provided a meaningful opportunity to renew public calls for information regarding her mother’s whereabouts, noting that her family remains in significant pain. “We just want our mom home. Give her a proper goodbye. That’s all,” she added, according to The Express Tribune.
Following her win, Janney told reporters that she thinks about the missing woman daily and expressed support for the Guthrie family. Authorities are currently managing an active investigation into the disappearance, supported by a reward of over $1.2 million for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery. Savannah Guthrie, who had taken a two-month hiatus from her professional duties following the incident, recently returned to the Today show on September 8.
