A substantial leak of unfinished footage from the highly anticipated animated sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has circulated online, prompting public condemnation from co-writer and producer Christopher Miller.
Roughly four and a half minutes of footage, which appears to combine the film’s opening scene with a trailer-style montage, began spreading across social media platforms. The clip directly picks up from the cliffhanger ending of 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, featuring protagonist Miles Morales captive on Earth-42 alongside his counterpart and Uncle Aaron.
Miller expressed his frustration on the social media platform X, stating, “Not a fan of leaks of unfinished, not fully rendered footage.” Sony Pictures, the studio behind the hit franchise, has not issued an immediate comment regarding the security breach.
While the exact source of the leak remains unconfirmed, Sony had previously showcased early footage of the film to industry insiders and fans during CinemaCon in April. The theatrical release of Beyond the Spider-Verse is currently scheduled for June 18, 2027, meaning the leak occurred more than a year and a half before the planned debut.
The upcoming film is written and produced by the creative duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller alongside David Callaham, with Justin K. Thompson and Bob Persichetti directing. The voice cast features Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy. The trilogy has enjoyed massive global success; Across the Spider-Verse grossed over $690 million worldwide in 2023, while the initial 2018 film, Into the Spider-Verse, won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
